Thank you Jon and Joy for your comments.
It would seem that there is an ongoing issue with this nuisance. I’m not against paragliders, far from it, I think it is a great pastime, but it needs to be carried out responsibly. I’m sure these people are not aware of the consequences of their actions, like dog owners who let their charges loose to run at birds, they just think it’s fun to watch birds scatter.
In my opinion, Wildlife bodies should be more active in the media, including social media, regarding the consequences of antisocial behaviour.
Open reserves such as the NNR’s, which are used by anyone for virtually anything should at least display large visual information notices regarding disturbance to wildlife. The Humber might be one of our biggest natural assets, but I see few things to make the public aware.

A similar incident was reported on Twitter earlier today, with para gliders seen disturbing feeding wading birds at Reads Island.
Unfortunately, from what I have seen posted on Twitter, it would appear that disturbance at Cleethorpes, Humberston and Tetney marshes is a regular occurrence!

Regards

Jon

Arrived at the Pier about 11:30 this morning to find two paragliders heading along the foreshore from north direction flying low and zig zagging. Opposite Kingsway/Leisure Centre they came lower and continually quartered the foreshore resulting in feeding birds being put to flight, then using same tactics along the NNR towards the Fitties before disappearing from sight, but through bins birds could still be seen dispersing. I witnessed this for around thirty to forty mins, but was told later that it had been going on prior to that and continued well into the afternoon.
Intentional or not, In my opinion this amounted to gross disturbance over a large area for a sustained period of time.

Did any one else witness this?
