Cuckoo calling atop a buckthorn bush on Cleethorpes outer beach mid-afternoon today. It was mobbed by skylarks and, with one in brief pursuit, flew off inland.

Earlier, another cuckoo was calling in woodland at back of Thorpe Park golf course, Humberston, and there were two in the Tetney Lock area.

Also at Tetney, near outfall, there were three wheatears, two wagtails and upwards of three reeling grasshopper warblers. At same site, yesterday, there were also three common sandpipers.

A grasshopper warbler was also reported reeling today on the ABP scrubland off the sea wall north of Grimsby Town FC’s Blundell Park ground.

Off Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, there were at least five Brent geese feeding with oystercatchers on tideline.

Had hoped for an April swift sighting, but no luck as yet.

Incidentally, congratulations to all who caught up with yesterday’s Eastern subalpine warbler at Gib Point (see Gib Point blog and Twitter for more info and pix).
