A man-made ‘island’ which provides a home for seabirds and a resting place for tired migrants has been sold at auction.
Hammer price for the Haile Sands fort , off Spurn, in the Humber Estuary, was £117,000 - well above the £95,000 guide price.
The identity of the buyer at yesterday’s auction in Sheffield has not been revealed.
