Good to see an alert this week on the perils on installing netting
on the outside of buildings to prevent birds from perching/
nesting.

Apparently, there have been several incidents of  entanglements
- leading to starvation or strangulation - at Newcastle Quayside.

In one incident, a young kittiwake is reported to have been
trapped for 24 hours on the Premier Inn near the Tyne Bridge

until the bird was retrieved by the Fire and Rescue service in
response to public concern.

A petition is calling for netting to be removed because of the
potential trauma for entangled birds.
