Calling all Northumberland enthusiasts!

There are still spaces for our birding holiday between Sunday November 2 - Thursday November 6 this year.

The setting will be a former coaching inn, The White Swan, in the historic and bustling market town of Alnwick.

Included will be:
• Coach travel to and from the hotel with pick-ups in and around Lincoln, Grimsby and other Lincolnshire towns
• Four nights' hotel accommodation with evening meal and breakfast
• Coach excursions  to Holy Island (Lindisfarne), Druridge Pools (of 'Slender-billed Curlew' fame)  and other birding destinations.

The price is quite low for an all-inclusive birding holiday - just £375 per person based on two sharing a room.

There may also be some single room availability (again £375 per person) but, if so, these are likely to be snapped up fast.

Early November is too late for Puffins and nesting seabirds  but there may still be a few Sooty Shearwaters on the move and perhaps some early divers and sea duck species.

Shorebirds should also be plentiful (with a chance of Shorelarks and Snow Buntings), and, further inland, scarce passerines such as Yellow-browed
Warbler and Pallas Warbler could put in an appearance.

If conditions are right, there may even be spectacular 'drops' of winter migrants such as Redwings, Fieldfares, Goldcrests and, who knows, an early  party or two of Waxwings.

Whatever happens, the holiday  will be full of camaraderie  and the chance to meet up with old friends and make new ones.

If husbands, wives or partners don't want to go birding, there are plenty of other options - Newcastle and Sunderland are a bus ride away and, subject to the fixture list, there may be a chance to catch an evening Premier League football match.

As with our three previous holidays in the Cairngorms, the club has put together the holiday in conjunction with Goole-based Cairngorm Travel.

There's no need to pay the whole cost upfront - a deposit will secure the booking. But don't leave it too long or the place might be lost.

Bookings are with Sarah, Selina or one of their colleagues at: 01405 761334. They're very helpful and knowledgeable. The reference is: November birding holiday.

In the meantime, the  itinerary has not yet been fixed, so, if anyone, has any suggestions for birding hotspots (accessible by coach), or other questions, don't hesitate to submit them via  this forum.
