Hi all,

I do the Bluesky updates, along with Andrew Chick, but I work full-time and have been away on holiday recently, so recently the updates haven't been as regular as I would like.

Will definitely be aiming to up the number of posts again soon, so any support in terms of followers / likes etc.. would be welcome.

Just use #lincsbirding in your post if you are on Bluesky and you will be part of the feed. Bluesky does work differently to Twitter (now X), in that you can either follow people or lists, and lists can be anything that interests you.

It's still a growing platform though, but I think less 'toxic', as people have mentioned, so worth a look.

Thanks,

Matt

Nick,

I for one don't us the forum to find what birds are about, have almost stopped reading the Latest News page as since it is now run by someone else they put massive lists of birds from sites which i find hard to read and am never going much further than my local patch, sometimes I do for a change.

I do like being on the computer playing mahjong and solitaire to keep my brain active, but it doesn't stop me going outside or in garden,  like yesterday I was stood at back door at 04.15 listening to dawn chorus but thought most must have been having a lay in,  then last night sat in garden watching five Swift hawking for insects,  so its possible to combine the two.

In past you have posted brilliant pics from your sites which i enjoyed.

Nice to see Geoff post on butterfly section.

Recently downloaded the Cornell app and finding it a great help, as yet not used it's ebirds section and most likely won't .

John

I have 3 whatsapp groups, related to local sites near me and the Area Swift programme. I have never used Twitter (X) Instagram etc. I do use Facebook, as our local RSPB group has a page. The Whatsapp groups do give an immediate notification.. but only related to the local sites. I wanted to join Bluesky as it covers a far wider Lincolnshire area, and updates quickly.. but only when people use it. At the moment, it doesn't seem to have fresh news regularly.. is it because most are using other platforms on Twitter (X)?

I use the forum, not regular.. but I'm not really a computer user, much preferring to be outside. If I find anything interesting I will put it up in the evening, or will respond to someone else's topic.
I think for most, the forum is not 'immediate' enough.

I will persevere with Bluesky, and see how it progresses. I just hope it doesn't become the Betamax of internet platforms.

Nick,

I am using the forum as its clear to see as much as I can until I get the call to have an operation on the bowel (over 53 years had three before) and I have no idea how long I will be out of action but will be taking my 8 x 32 binos to Leeds as before in 2006.

This week am the only one posting and will continue as long as its possible.  Have noticed Jim hasn't posted for about three weeks so am wondering if he is using X, Bluesky, Bird Track or Ebird or something else or my be on hols or ill.

I have also looked at Blue-sky and wondered if to open an account, but have found a way of looking at others sightings without having an account, it isn't to popular with very few few "likes" etc. Certainly won't be going on X again.  Could go on Ebird though, have seen a well known twitcher who posts on it  and I read their posts. I posted on Birdtrack for many years and still have all the records.

With only myself and John Walker posting on the Butterfly section and the other sections almost dead I suppose its a sign of the times.

I'll keep the ship afloat as long as I can!

Regards

John

I always read the forum Nick, and also 3 local WhatsApp groups but not twitter or Facebook. I keep meaning to join Bluesky but haven't got round to it yet, is it useful?

Bluesky was created by Nick Coulbeck
So, in the newest LBC newsletter it stated that the club is now using the Bluesky app.
Now, I am not one for apps as such... the phone is for calling, the odd message and maybe a few photos...
However, I had added Birdtrack so I could add records in the field as it were. I also have a couple of
local patch Whatsapp groups too. I then thought, ok..I will add this new Bluesky thingy, and keep up to date
with the LBC in real time.
It doesn't appear to be that popular though, a bit like this forum.
Is anyone using it.. is anyone reading this forum?
