Fully agreed, Nick. I thought it was an excellent guided walk, and I learned quite a bit. Josh was in top form and there were also useful botanical insights from Sian Niblo and Mick Binnion.

A good, if a bit blustery and chilly walk this morning. Great to meet Josh and hear from a guy that is as passionate and like minded about our coast.
I look forward to seeing him along the coastal path again in the future.

Congratulations to Josh Forrester who  has been appointed to a newly-created position - Cleethorpes Coastal Ranger.

Josh is the birder who discovered the mega-rare Black-throated Thrush (pictured) that spent several weeks before the first Covid lockdown in 2020 feeding on the lawns at the  front of the campus at Grimsby Institute.

In one of his first Ranger initiatives, Josh will be leading a circular 90-minute wildlife 'safari' on the Cleethorpes foreshore nature reserve at 9am this Wednesday May 21.

Says Josh: "This will be the first of a series of walks providing an opportunity to share enthusiasm for our coastline and to build relationships with those who visit.

"These are special areas of nature that need to be protected but also enjoyed, so the walks will be informal, friendly and for all levels of knowledge.

"It is important that  people enjoy the beauty of the coastline but also  understand what makes it so special and how we can all play a part in protecting it."

The walk, which is over moderately uneven ground, will start and finishing behind Cleethorpes Leisure Centre.

For those unable to join this week, a second will take place next week at a date and time to be confirmed.
