A painting of Red-legged Partridge by Lincolnshire artist George Edward Lodge (1860-1954) has sold for £1,800 at auction - more than three times higher than the pre-sale estimate of £400-£600.

Lodge, who lived much of his life in the Horncastle area, was commissioned to carry out the work for Witherby's Handbook of British Birds.

The auction of British, European and Sporting Art was held last Saturday by Tennants of Leyburn.
