Nick, there was a plan for a new access road to be built from Chase Hill routing behind East Halton village all the way to the Skitter. Not sure if this is still on the cards. Basically, Able owns all the land right up to East Halton Skitter, the only missing piece being the land on which Winter's pond is located.
The N Lincs Council planning portal shows some "interesting" planning applications relating to the land between Chase Hill, East Halton and the Skitter - developments around carbon capture and hydrogen pipelines, construction of storage sheds and installation of at least two tall communications masts. Again, unsure as to whether these developments will ever be constructed, I guess time will give us the answers!

I imagine it has something to do with either the windfarm project, a new car terminal/storage or transport facility. Although the pond might remain, the surrounding area will become highly developed and security would prevent any unauthorised trespass.
The narrow lane to the area will also be widened and become more of a two lane highway, significant for haulage and transport.
Either way, it doesn't bode well for birdwatching. Maybe the LBC could approach Able UK, and offer to monitor the pond area in the interest of nature. You never know, they might want to acknowledge for publicity a 'green' agenda.

On the bright side it is a hole full of water, so what else can be done with it? The area is not picturesque enough to be developed as a holiday/caravan sight. It will surely have to remain a lake given the size of it, but the worst possibility is that we will be denied access to it.
Nothing ever stays the same for long.

That is a worry, Jon. You’ll have to keep a close eye on the forthcoming planning applications on North Lincolnshire Council’s website to see what Able are proposing.

Winter's Pond - East Halton was created by Jon Drakes
This morning, I heard the news I have been dreading, Winter's Pond and the associated property is going to be sold to Able UK. I have no idea what Able UK's plans for the property will be, but I fear it probably will not be beneficial to the wildlife that is currently attracted to the pond.
It is part of my main Lincolnshire birding patch and I am gutted to say the least!
