I disagree Jim, even if I went on the Scotland trip and knew you was going to do a report for newsletter it wouldn't stop me writing my own report and adding to people giving content to the forum.
Or if a member and I went on holiday together and I knew full well he would submit a post on forum that wouldn't stop me putting my own report on.

Following the previous two LBC trips to Scotland, there have been illustrated write-ups. Admittedly these have been in the newsletter because it enjoys a wider readership (and it seems a shame to put the same stuff in both it and the Forum).

Pete,
totally agree. I replied with a lengthy post but I got timed out and lost it, which is a joke. I did save it but don't know how to get it back.
As far as I know there is no app for the Scunny area, and I doubt would use it if there was. I have two friends who text to say what is about on my patch but I can't always get out. I use WhatsApp every day to keep in contact with friends and family.
Considering the few members who are so negative about the forum its a wonder any of us or new members want to use it! When the old forum was on go it wasn't all dead serious stuff like some would prefer it to be now, it was fun and loads of members joined in. Have just looked up the word forum and it says somewhere to discuss a like-minded subject etc online well that's what we do most of the time and we also have a laugh at other subjects which one of our members refers to as chit-chat and of no interest, not to them obviously but it is to me and others or they wouldn't contribute. Life is hard enough without being serious all the time laugh and the world laughs with you as the saying goes.
I don't think for one minute the forum is moribund etc but it would be if some people had their way, the forum plods along at its own speed just like me. As Pete says there is about the same number using it today as a few years ago, there is always a drop off in winter time as not as many get out.
Let's be positive about the forum not negative, in the past have said that the death knell is sounding but I don't really believe that and if I did I would jack in.
Take a leaf out Pete's book and be positive!! Not negative nellies!
When I went away on holiday I always posted a comprehensive report on what I saw etc and I got good feedback, nowadays that doesn't seem to happen, I have seen when members have gone abroad and done a report. I remember either last year or year before AH put a report on of every bird he saw plus highlights and virtually got next to no views or comments okay it wasn't in Lincs but next door in Norfolk, if that had been me I would have been peeved off that I had taken time to do a report with next to know views. So those going to Scotland don't forget to do a report when you get back , not have to let members wait for the enewsletter to read what you saw.
Okay that will do.
Cheers
John

I've been an LBC member for several years now and activity on the forum has always been mostly at the level it is today, so I don't think it's dying or even obsolete. The thing with the forum its that it's always there if and when people need it.
There are a couple of WhatsApp groups for my area (North Somercotes , Saltfleet and Louth) which work very well for us, and I just assumed Scunthorpe, Messingham, and Grimsby had their own.
WhatsApp is good for bird sightings but I find the forum is perfect for more lengthy conversation and discussion.
Regards Pete
