Jacob Stolt-Neilson is a director of the Stolt-Neilson group who own oil tankers etc and have an office in London . He was the founder of the company in 1959. They have the largest fleet of chemical tankers (160) in the World.
Also Jacob came from Norway and the name Stolt means to be proud plus the word auk is derived from Norwegian alka ( sea bird, auk) .

I was elevated to Moderator about a year ago. So far there has been nothing to moderate so I haven't been able to exercise my power!
Good stuff about the Stolt Auk, John, but is Stolt a place?
Incidentally, I have never managed to catch sight of any of the auk species in the Humber, though they do occasionally put in an appearance, usually unwell birds. I once had a chat with a birder-windsurfer who told me almost collided with a puffin on the water.

Always nice to get info which I can use from time to time. I have just found the tech info of this oil tanker and this will give me a bit more pleasure to add to my sometimes boring life
It was built in 2001 and named Stolt Auk in 2014 when it started flying the Union Jack , it had two previous names before that.
PS: have you been given a new title Jim, don't remember seeing Moderator on your profile before?

Stolt auk? That's a species I'm unfamiliar with.
Anyway, here's a chemicals/oil tanker of that name sailing past Cleethorpes and Grimsby this morning en route from Grangemouth to Hull to discharge her cargo.
