If they tried to fill it in that would be a great shame. I would think it would be a major task to fulfil too. It is very deep, and I am sure there is a spring that feeds it from below.

It's owned by Waltham-based Carr & Carr Builders.
Last year birder John Nelson, who lives in the area, approached Chris Carr with a request to walk around it.
As I recall, John told me that he was given permission but it proved to be impassable.
Like Nick, I occasionally take a look at it from the railway bridge, and its often full of preening herring gulls.
However, over the years, it has pulled in some decent birds - eg l-t duck and last April's Alpine swift. I think a pair of g-c grebes nests most years.
Long-term, I imagine the plan is to fill in the pond and develop the site.

I always assumed it was Anglian Water but I may be wrong.

I occasionally try to view the pond from the railway bridge on the North wall. There are often large amounts of fowl on the water, but it is very awkward and the view is limited. I travelled around to the main entrance gate, where as lads we would go in and fish. There are no indications on the signage to the identity of who owns or manages the pond now, just PRIVATE PROPERT and KEEP OUT.
Does anyone know who owns or manages the pond now, how they could be contacted?
I would relish the prospect of a few hours with binoculars having a look over the pond.
