Aye, I must have been the only person in UK who didn't watch Princess Diana's funeral. I was invited to an Aunt's house to watch it and I remember walking there and the town was like a ghost town, by time I got to Aunt's it was all over but she gave me my tea and taxi fare home ![:) :)]()
I can remember neighbours etc coming in for this and that and while talking to me I could see their eyes darting back and forth looking to see where the TV was, until they said, "where is your TV" and then I explained that I was doing two creative writing courses and writing stories etc and couldn't concentrate with the TV on and decided to return it and video recorder back to RR. I got loads of work done after that.
The day I got my first wildlife article published in Lincolnshire Life I knew that sending the Tv etc back was best thing I did.
In 2004 decided to buy a Tv again and rejoin the modern world lol.

No television in the house between 1997 and 2004? That must have been bliss!

On July 5th a researcher rang asking if I would speak on the Jeremy Vine show, of course I said yes, they said we will ring just before 10am, that time went by and so did 11am, so I thought they had second thoughts,( maybe a birder knows rung saying once you get Max chatting you won't get away lol).
Then at just gone midday they rang and asked if I would go on Storm Huntley's show ( she works on Mr Vine's show and has her own program) again I said yes, they told me to stay on phone until spoken to, the caption on TV said John from Lincolnshire, I was asked when my birthday is and I said today I am 75, there was wahoo from the two guests and Storm, I was then asked would I like to name an hospital and I replied yes Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) and Scunthorpe General Hospital both of which saved my life twice otherwise I wouldn't be here.
I'm well used to being on the radio as between 1997 and 2004 when I didn't have a television during my writing days I often rang the local stations up like Humberside, Leeds, Sheffield, York etc and spoke about everything under the sun, I recorded each time I rang up and to this day I often listen to the tapes, it was a real hoot except when talking about serious matters.
Regards
John

Agreed - hats off to LBC stalwart John Goy for his three-minute star performance on BBC TV’s Look North today.
John, aka Max, was singing the praises of the NHS with whom he shares his birthday.
He was fluent, authoritative and amusing. Most impressive.
Happy birthday to the NHS - and happy birthday to John!
