Here's a photo of the carving that occupies pride of place in Mr Warman's constituency office.

He reckons it's a redshank, but I think it's more likely to a juvenile black-winged still.

Anyone got any alternatives?

I'll pass on the suggestions.

NEWS that two pairs of rare black-winged stilts have nested in his constituency has been welcomed by MP Matt Warman (pictured) who has a special interest in wading birds.

The stilts have been a star attraction this summer at the nature reserve at Frampton which is within the Boston & Skegness constituency he has held for the Conservatives since 2015.

A little-known fact about Mr Warman (41) is that he is parliamentary 'champion' for a more common (though declining) wetland bird, the redshank, which also breeds at Frampton.

Says he: "A likeness occupies pride of place in my constituency office."

He continues: "My mother-in-law worked for the RSPB for many years, predominantly at Freiston Shore prior to the development of Frampton Marsh.

"It may be over exaggerating to describe myself as ‘knowledgeable’, but the welfare of birds and wildlife is certainly something we, as a family, care deeply about."

"My constituency is home to some of the best habitats in the UK for both resident and migrating birds, and I was delighted to learn of the breeding success for black-winged stilts at Frampton - a first for Lincolnshire.

"This confirms the importance of such reserves, and I fully support their contribution both to encouraging wildlife and to helping local people and visitors connect with nature."

Before entering the 'Commons, Mr Warman was, between 1999-2015, a technology correspondent with The Daily Telegraph for whom he interviewed such luminaries as the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, and the inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

He was born in Enfield, North London, in a constituency represented for many years by a former Environment Secretary, Michael Portillo, now a successful broadcaster and political pundit.

Mr Warman  has a degree in English from Durham University.

The extent, if any, to which other Lincolnshire MPs have an interest in birds or wildlife is not known.
