Pleased to say ours are still occupying the nest we put up. I'm thinking of putting up a 2nd for next year and maybe start a colony!

Regards Pete

It's encouraging to see that a Charles Church housing estate in Humberston has become home to a population of nesting housemartins - probably upwards of a dozen nests.

There would be many more, but indications are that many of the householders have dislodged the nests - perhaps while the birds were constructing them.

They do leave a bit of a mess on window sills, but that's a small price to pay.

I spoke to one householder who was clearly pleased to have them. "They've been coming for a few years," she said.

As far as I could make out, there is only one nest  (with one removed) on Longhurst's nearby Carrington estate and none on the adjacent Persimmon estate where the houses are less expensive.
