The mayor of North East Lincolnshire is the latest customer of the Lincolnshire Bird Club.

Cllr Steve Beasant bought a copy of Birds of Lincolnshire from the LBC stand at an event hosted in Grimsby yesterday by Heritage Lincolnshire and the National Lottery.

The mayor is not a birder, but he is a champion of  safeguarding wildlife and the environment.

Last year, he cut the ribbon at the official launch of the new Novartis Ings wetland birds mitigation site on the outskirts of Grimsby.

The event provided him with the opportunity to view ruff, black-tailed godwit and other waders. * Pictured are 1) the mayor with site designer Roger Wardle at last October's unveiling of Novartis Ings and 2) LBC sales secretary Bill Sterling talking about the county's birdlife to an independent TV production committee that also attended yesterday's  event.
