It's looking promising for numbers.

The four single rooms look likely to be taken, but we still need a few more couples/twosomes to make it definitely happen. I have been in touch with the Grimsby RSPB Group who are being helpful and supportive and some of their people might come along.

Booking will be direct with Cairngorm Travel who will create a special booking page later this week - probably Friday. I will notify those who have expressed interest, then post this info on the Forum.

Then it will be first come, first served.

The coach would probably start at Lincoln, with two/three other more northerly Lincolnshire town pick-up points on the itinerary.  However, this is yet to be confirmed. Likewise any feeder mini-bus arrangement.

I will post a further update asap later this week.  It should be more definitive, so that prospective birder-travellers can get it booked.

Apologies if the info so far seems bitty, but this is new territory both for LBC and Cairngorm Travel.

In the meantime, the plan is for one other excursion as well as the Loch Garten trip. The frontrunner is Lochindorb where the target species would probably be black-throated diver in breeding plumage. (Someone once told me: "You haven't lived if you haven't seen a) a gannet diving and b) a black-throated diver in summer plumage.)

I hope there will be a comprehensive update in the February newsletter due out next week.

Date is April 28 - what better time to be in the Highlands?

Who knows what species might be up for grabs? Ospreys almost certainly. Eagles? Crested tits? Capercaillies?

The aim is go get 40-50 on board - for which the all-inclusive cost (travel/ accommodation/ meals etc) would probably be substantially the lowest of any comparable birding holiday on the market. Just £269!

However, any fewer than 40 and the  cost per head would rise.

Fewer than 30 and the trip would not go ahead.

Cairngorm Travel are bending over backwards to make this happen, so it would be great for it to be  goer.
