Lincolnshire County Council is backing an application by the RSPB for the English East Coast to be designated a UNESCO  Natural World Heritage Site.

It says: "The council is committed to protecting and enhancing the county’s natural land and marine environments to which ends it works closely with various partners.

"It recognises that such status could bring multiple benefits to the region both for the environment and for the coastal communities in Lincolnshire."

The project, known as the East Atlantic Flyway, is due to be discussed at a meeting in Hull on Thursday December 8 when  it is hoped that North East Lincolnshire Council and the coastal authorities on the north bank of the Humber will also come on board.
