Famous Hudsonian godwit

It was 25 years ago next month (October 1987)  that British Birds carried a special feature on a Hudsonian godwit reported to have been seen at Blacktoft Sands.

The record occurred six years earlier but evidently was subject to much scrutiny before being rubber-stamped.

Article author Andrew Grieve, of Goole, first saw the bird on September 10, 1981, but the identification does not seem to have been verified until the following month.
