But back to the swans.
There seems to be no friction (as of yesterday) between the two parents and the three surviving cygnets.
Perhaps the rescue initiative was misguided, and Nature should have been allowed to run its course.

John - Are you sure it was a moth?
By coincidence, your reply matches the sentiment of the poem, Disappointment, published exactly 100 years ago:
Once I found a fairy
In my cup of tea.
She was nearly drowned and as wet as could be.
I picked her out and dried her
And asked her if she'd stay;
"Oh no,"she said, "I mustn't,"
And off she flew away.
As an erudite, well-read fellow, I'm sure you'll know the identity of the author.
Hi Jim,
Yes it was a mothreading between the lines wish it had been something else, but we live in hope.
Have to admit on this occasion I didn't recognise the poem but I have just read who the author was. And enjoyed reading the poem. Maybe we ought to have a few more on here of which I have quite a few I wrote many years ago
Toodle pip
John

Legal or not I would have done the same in their shoes, but then I'm an old softy.
Not quite the same thing but I rescued a Gold Spot moth at weekend when it either flew in to or dropped into a glass of melted ice cream, it was struggling to get out so I put a finger in and it clung on, then placed it onto a paper towel and dried it off, and placed both on kitchen table, next morning it was alive. Most people wouldn't have done what I did and left it to die.

Well-meaning, but I'm not sure if this action at Cleethorpes country park was appropriate (or legal)
