Likewise with our buddleias - very few butterflies compared with previous years (though there were plenty for much of June).

Re the rest of Alan's plants, impressed with the range in such a confined space. If they had been growing on council land, the 'weed'-spraying operatives would have soon got to work.

I completed a garden big butterfly count on Saturday and Sunday and very low numbers of butterflies
other than small and large whites , just 5 peacock , 1 red admiral, 2 small tortoiseshell so barely 15%
Of last years count, I allow a very good stand of nettles to grow , so hope numbers may increase.

Regards John

Well done mate!  A weed is only a weed if it doesn't go along with the owners way of thinking!  I've been reading on other sites that there is a distinct lack of butterflies on the buddleia's and I for one agree, I have at least a dozen of these shrubs most of which I have taken cuttings of (the original was dark blue and now most of the cuttings are light blue and one in the driveway has both colour's on same shrub, weird) and very few have butterflies on and majority are whites, this happened last few years. Have known in past at least a dozen peacock on one shrub, don't think I've seen more than a few all year, maybe the experts can tell us why.

Yesterday at MSQ very few coloured butterflies were on the buddliea.

With luck mate you may get some different birds.

This small patch ( 8' x 10' ) originally had a shed on it which we removed. We did not remove the paving slabs but all of this growth developed by itself with no planting by us. Earlier in the year there were even tulips and daffodils growing there !
