I was surprised to see it on centre court because while the outside courts are pretty much open to the air, centre court has a massive stadium around it and the concertina folding roof; not providing the easiest access to the grass at the bottom.

Perhaps there ought to be a bird ID handbook in the commentary box for televised sports events - particularly golf tournaments which often have a range of habitats. At the very least, the broadcasting companies should have recourse to an ornithological consultant - preferably one with worldwide species expertise ( I’m thinking of American golf coverage). But getting back to Wimbledon, I wonder if the pied wagtail is a nester.  Does anyone check the ivy for a breeding bird survey? I must get in touch with  the LTA - I might get a free ticket or two.

There was a Red Kite over the pitch at the last England v New Zealand test match and it didn't even get a mention although it was on screen for about 30 seconds. The retired commentators Beefy and Bumble would have had something to say.

Pied Wagtail on centre court got a big round of applause during the Djokovic match. And rightly so!
