Make sure you take your bike round with you or it might not be there when you get back lol unless things have changed. Stonechat bred there quite a few year back as I recorded them and also had Whinchat. Ring Ouzel in season, Grayling butterfly was regular and as JW says it is great for other butterflies. Barn Owl was a regular as was Buzzard, Hobby and Merlin. I've spent a full day there many times, not been since Covid. usually lots of dogs and walkers. Lots of skylark and pipits. Also sometimes there was scallys there. Not to farther down the road is Appleby Carrs usually good for raptors. Winterton Floods bottom of Thealby Hill used to be brill for waterfowl and gulls.

Ashby ville is looking the best atm, doesn’t look like much turns up there but guessing that’s because no one sends sightings in, so no one goes ( because there’ll be nothing there) to send sightings in.
fiskerton fen just outside Lincoln was like that, I seemed to be the only one walking round there, 5 wood sandpiper, black necked grebe and most famously lincolnshires 5th whiskered tern soon made it popular

Hello Mate, Don't underestimate Ville it often gets some decent sightings but mostly not recorded on here, there was Osprey recently, a mate of mine sometimes pops in while at Lakeside shopping and often gets decent stuff. Another mate had great northern diver a decade ago. Also Stonechat was a regular before the new estate went up. Try Bottesford Beck which starts at the A18 opposite steelworks and works its way behind the village/town to the Trent.

I know of loads of places mostly devoid of people but wildlife pops up here and there.

Good luck!

My patch starts on the western edge of Scunny up to and including Owlet Woods, I may see you about, look for white car when I finally get out.

Re Cadney res I tried years ago to get a permit it would have been easier getting blood out of a stone. Certain LBC members had the required permit and of course ameans of getting in namely a key. I was told to write to AW and put my case but to be honest I couldn't be arsed. Russ worked for AW at that time don't know if he still does.

I always have half an hour at the gates just in case summat pops over.

I agree this is an under watched place. I always post sightings from Ashbyville. last one included the terrapins there. I don't go on a regular basis but there is good potential. Previous postings included 2 cranes flying over. I know there are regular sightings of barn owl, grey wagtail and kingfisher alon the beck that runs at the side of it. Also osprey over last month and good numbers of warblers.
