This proposed event has been scrapped.Frank Gardner's agent says: I'm so sorry to have to come to you with such bad news but I'm afraid that Frank is going to have to postpone his talk for you. We have not taken this decision lightly and it is extremely rare that we have to take this sort of action. He's working all-hours what with the awful war in Ukraine and unfortunately we can't currently justify pulling him away from that for an event. I'm incredibly sorry to disappoint and Frank sends his apologies. He was so delighted to be asked to speak for you and we'd love to rearrange this for a future date when - hopefully - the situation in Ukraine calms down."

Message to LBC from Sue Graham, Developments & Promotions Convenor of the Leicestershire & Rutland Ornithological Society which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year:

"To mark this milestone year, we are organising a number of events, one of which is a Celebrity Lecture by Frank Gardner, BTO President and Security Correspondent for the BBC.

"This will be a Zoom presentation on Wednesday 6th April at 6.00pm which is open to LROS Members and Non-Members alike. We would especially like to invite our friends in the neighbouring counties of Leicestershire & Rutland and extend a warm welcome to any Lincs Bird Club members who might be interested in joining us."

Frank Gardner was disabled in 2004 as a result of an horrific ordeal at the hands of Al Qaeda gunmen.

He was reporting from Al-Suwaid in 2004, a district of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, when he and his cameraman were ambushed. During the attack, one of  Gardner's spinal nerves was hit and severely damaged.

However, this has not halted either his career or his birding activities.

More details of next month's talk nearer the time.
