COURT action is to follow an incident  which resulted in the death  in Cleethorpes of a grey lag goose.

Humberside police said an 18-year-old has been summoned  to appear at Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday 10 January.

He has been charged with committing offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981, and Road Traffic Act, 1988, following the incident - said to have involved a van - on Sunday 24 October at the perimeter of the boating lake.

Initially, police said they would take no action after the accused expressed remorse and said he was willing to pay 'compensation' to the charity, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue, whose officers attended the scene.

However, following a backlash from the public, the Force reopened its investigation.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said: "We  thank everyone for their support in assisting with our inquiries."
