Hi Chris,

Bloody hell what fantastic sight and in a very small garden, that's what my front garden looks like when the Spuggies visit. Do they roost locally and why do you think they enjoy your garden, is it because no else feeds them?

Just realised its 20 years since my first wildlife article was published in Lincs Life just reading the magazine.

I'll set to and write an article of my Brambling experience in the next week or so. Maybe it may just kick-start my writing off again. I see there is a form etc, I'll check it out, thanks.

Regards

John

What you should have done is written an article about your brambling experience. I'm sure they would like to publish in the E Newspaper. I wrote an article last year about my star attraction which is lesser redpoll. It attracted some favourable comments and reminded me of the pleasure the birds have given me over the last few years. I feel another article coming on as since Christmas I have have over 2000 lesser redpoll in garden. So many that they have proved difficult to count. I had to reset to photographing, printing and then marking the print with a marker to get a reasonably accurate count and even that is a bit hit and miss as my lens doesn't cover the area adequately

Hi Chris,
Before I attempt to write a few lines about "my" Brambling/s I'll wait to see if they get a mention in the bird report, this isn't an excuse not to write BTW ;)

Hi Max I record all entries from this site on an Excel database for Colin and Sheila. So all your entries do in fact get noticed. I think you will find that your sightings of brambling will get a mention in the bird report when we receive it next month. I would be surprised if it isn't as I distinctly remember entering them in to the database and each time thinking lucky so and so. All bird numbers are used for the compilation of the bird report. In future instead of entering Scunthorpe as the location i enter it as Scunthorpe SE 881079.
With my redpoll I always enter them as Lincoln, Doddington Park. Once I was more specific and got up to find some people from Coventry who travelled up to Lincoln to see some mealy redpoll I had reported.
I don't record birds that have no location given as I haven't a clue where people live. I also like to have a total to record but if one isn't given the software enters it as one present which in some circumstances can be a bit ridiculous if recording Knot or Dunlin on the coast for instance

When I first started recording sightings in and over My Garden on the old forum (must be at least ten years ago) I seem to remember I gave Colin & Sheila Jennings my OS reference of SE 881079, the reason I'm confirming it is due to a passage I read while reading the newsletters, it said something about those who give a name like my garden or gravel pit, and I got the jist that these wouldn't be counted in the records, maybe am wrong.
