I met him for the first time just a couple of weeks ago as I picked up the Bird Atlas from him at home. Had a really nice chat with him and was looking forward to seeing him again on the circuit. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Very sad to hear that. I recollect Bill was a BTO rep back in the 1980s and he got me into Atlasing. He was always a great guy to chat with.

Shocking news indeed. I didn't realise Bill had been ill. He was quite the Gib regular and always good company.
Sad loss indeed

That is very sad news, indeed. Bill was a superb birder and a top man.

Very sadly I must pass on the news that Bill Brooking died this afternoon, after several months’ of illness.
Bill was a founder member, original committee member and NE area rep for LBC. More importantly he was a great and long-standing friend to many, having created the weekly gatherings of Grimsby area birders which forged a network of friendships which go on. He was a top man and we’ll miss him.
