The club has received the request below from student James Green. Anyone willing to help him with his warbler survey should contact him before the deadline of July 21.

Dear LBC

I am contacting you due to your expertise in the field of ornithology.

Can you provide expert input for a study modelling habitat connectivity in a small city?

I am a MSc Conservation Biology student at the University of Derby undertaking my Independent Research Project. The study is focused on understanding the habitat connectivity of the City of Derby for Reed Warblers, Grasshopper Warbler and Chiffchaff and aims to provide suggestions on how connectivity can be improved for these species.

I am looking for experts to undertake a questionnaire that will provide information on how well adapted the three bird species are to living in and traversing different land uses across Derby. The questions will ask you to provide data on how traversable and how suitable for settling each land use is for each bird species (on scales from 0-100). I would be very grateful for your participation in this study.

For any questions please contact me at j.green51@unimail.derbyac.uk. Please return any completed questionnaire to this address also.

This research has been approved on behalf of the University’s Ethics Committee. All data collected will be anonymised and used by me as part of my Independent Scholarly Activity.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Yours sincerely,

James Green
