Ornithologist, academic and author Tim Birkhead has accepted an invitation to be guest speaker at our AGM for 2020.

Seven years ago, Prof Birkhead wrote a fascinating book that went on to be rated the Best Natural History Book of 2012 by two national newspapers, The Guardian and The Independent.

Both authoritative and entertaining, Bird Sense - What It's Like To Be A Bird (Bloomsbury Publishing), also won awards from both the BTO and British Birds magazine.

Prof Birkhead has also written other highly-rated books including The Red Canary - an intriguing study of how collaboration between a professional scientist and an amateur bird fancier resulted in a selective breeding breakthrough.

Another of his successful titles (published in 2016) is The Most Perfect Thing - The Inside (and Outside) of A Bird's Egg, some of it containing aspects of his ongoing research on the guillemot, a species on which he is the world's leading expert.

More about Prof Birkhead, who is recently back from South America, will appear in the next edition of The Heron, the club's newsletter.

The annual meeting will be held at The Golf hotel in Woodhall Spa at 7.30pm on March 24, 2020.
