Hi Stuart,
Yes I totally agree that PRIVATE MESSAGING should be allowed like it was on the old forum, those who run the club certainly don't cater for those who use the forum and I think it's a crying shame. If I get to the AGM in March I will bring the subject up and see if I get talked down or what excuses they come up with, should make for a lively few minutes!!
Have often wanted to contact members regarding different things but unless I know their email or phone number I can't!
Oh dear that's not good, probably a sign of the times.
Thanks for info.
Max

Hi Max,
It's a pity they don't still have private messaging on this Forum! The Mid-Lincs RG has been going for over 40 years. Up until Covid we had several active young ringers but the lockdown and subsequent effect on their businesses/work and young families reduced their time for ringing to virtually nil. To compound this, we only have one active Trainer now as the other three (including me!) have had to stop, mainly because we are not as active as we were. Finally, the majority of youngsters who enquire about ringing with us either want it for their CV or do not realise the training is going to take at least a couple of years. We only have one trainee now and three other active ringers based at Wyberton, Louth and Market Rasen. We sincerely hope for further recruitment but it is not looking promising at the moment. On the plus side, Owen Beaumont is a ringer and works with the Birklands RG who have been ringing at Theddlethorpe for many years. He also helps to ring at Donna Nook so it's not all bad news!

Does your group have the younger generation to continue your work in years to come? Have often seen on TV where young people are doing this work.

You can see why some of us have been ringers for many years - the data gathered particularly by colour ringing is fascinating and enhances our knowledge of bird movement and longevity.

Mablethorpe Sandwich Tern was created by Pete Locking
A Sandwich Tern spotted by Dean Nicholson on the 8th August with yellow flag N77 was ringed as a chick in Scheellhoek in the SW corner The Netherlands in May 2017.It has been recorded in most summers (not 2018 or 2021) on the near continent coast encompassing the natal area, Zeebrugge in Belgium, south to the Somme in France. It was seen twice in Aug 2020 by Nige Lound at Gib. before being seen at Cape Town, South Africa in Jan 2022.
It was last seen back at Zeebrugge in June last year before turning up at Mablethorpe and and being seen by Dean on 08.08.24.
Good work Dean, fascinating data.
Regards Pete
