Greater Flamingo Phoenicopterus roseus

Ranges from S/SE/W/N Africa, western Asia, and southern Europe.

Greater Flamingo is currently placed in Category D/E of the British List by the British Ornithologist's Union (BOU). Category D species are those which would otherwise appear in Category A except that there is reasonable doubt that they have ever occurred in a natural state. Those in Category E are species that have been recorded as introductions, human-assisted transportees or escapees from captivity, and whose breeding populations (if any) are thought not to be self-sustaining.

At least one Lincolnshire record: Witham Mouth, September 16th 1990, and later Gibraltar Point, September 21st and October 5th and 7th, 1990. Accepted by BBRC in Category D (Report on Rare Birds in Great Britain in 1995, British Birds 89 (11): 481-531).
