With the Hummingbird, I use the dedicated Hummingbird monopod.
As it is, it fits nicely in a medium size rucksack and when extended fully it is perfect eye height when stood up. Perfect for just a morning stroll down the beach, and the monopod is great for shooing dogs away.

Assuming you carry one with you, Nick, what's your choice of tripod?

It was a Phoneskope shot Jim. If I walk the beach I use a Celestron Hummingbird, which I attach a iphone 6s too. This allows a pretty good pic without getting too close and spooking it.

He was here again this morning around 9 as the tide went out, sat on the breakwater quite happy.
