A record shot is all us amateurs can expect, especially flight shots, whereas those with equipment costing thousands should get the bees knees photos. I for one am happy with my bridge camera and taken cracking pics of aircraft miles high or much lower but trying to take a Swift would be hopeless.
Well done Nick!!

Thanks chaps. I don't consider myself a photographer, and unless it is sat perfectly still and 10' in front of me.. it would be a blurry blob. My only hope with the swift was to get a shot for my tick/record file, and I wanted the tower in shot too. I gave up after about 5 minutes trying to get a close up, and left that to the other guys who have taken some amazing photos.

Agreed - it's a terrific photo. I always like to see a bit of context.

The bird was still hawking happily at 6.30pm today, occasionally in the company of a passing swallow or two (which looked tiny by comparison).

Among the admirers were Bob and Alice who had made the trip from  Hull because they were disappointed with shots of an earlier bird they had seen at Easington.

A teenage passer-by joked: "The bird should take some dope and chill out."

Earlier in  the day, the shoreline knot all seem to have departed but there were 19 sanderling feeding on the tideline.

Up to 10 curlew were present, one bubbling.

Thanks to all who tipped about the Alpine Swift, and to Jim for putting it up on this forum. Had a great morning with great views, and good company with other LBC members as we watched it over the Wonderland and water tower area. After missing the Chapel birds, it was fantastic to see one virtually on my doorstep.
