It is quite good to go off at a tangent now and then especially as at the moment the birding is fairly quiet , not even been going to MSQ as it is frozen over.Did get a Great Spotted Woodpecker on our sunflower feeder, first ever one at home.Still good to see a few Whoopers on Messingham Common. By the way, being Yorkshire born and bred I would even watch Geoffrey playing tiddlywinks.

It's Lionel Messi, an Argentina World Cup winner, and I agree totally with you Alan.  Jim, "hit and giggle" is not how I would describe the innovative formats such as 20/20, the hundred etc.  It brings people to watch the game who wouldn't normally pay to watch cricket.  I bet your one of those who would sit and watch Geoffrey Boycott score 4 runs by lunchtime in aTest Match and admire his play! However I digress from what should be about birding.

No, I just like a sport where if someone injures their little finger they do not need to be rushed off to hospital. But, I still do not know who Lionel is.

But haven’t cricket and rugby become just as commercialised, albeit with less money involved?

The former has become completely trashed by the administrators - especially with the creation of new formats that are basically all variations of hit-and-giggle.

Do you have the same objections to the likes of tennis, golf, snooker, darts and the rest?

Lionel who ??? As I said if it is not Rugby Union or Cricket I have no interest. I stopped watching football many many years ago when it became a business and not a sport.
