Chris Packham did respond to Ian Botham ( see attachment ). But perhaps by switching the subject. On this occasion, I think the ex-cricketer had the better of their 'discussion'.

Okay the bus was a bad idea, but have thought of something much more practical than a diesel bus/cars.

I suggest we return to the stagecoach of old with Jim up top blowing his trumpet to tell the passengers (twitchers) to get on board ;) not how many we could cram in but we could sit on the floor and pack just as many up top with Jim and the driver, not sure who would be riding shotgun lol. May take a while to reach the said destination but just think how much we would be doing to save the planet! Plus don't forget to have a bucket and shovel hanging on the back of the stagecoach to collect the horse muck for our gardens, again saving the peat fields from destruction.  Those up top would get an excellent view of the wildlife far better than what we get in a car. I see the only problem for the twitching brigade, the said bird would have taken flight and took its hook somewhere else by the time they arrived lol. Unless the said bird was a long stayer like the American Robin or other such birds then riding the old stagecoach wouldn't be a problem!

Kind regards

Max ;)

I’m as guilty as the next person. Went to Frampton today to see the plover and there were birders from all over the country, so a bus I don’t think would work. Had a great day though!

Regards Pete

Would a bus carrying 40 twitchers be more sympathetic to the planet than twenty diesel cars or more? It would if it was an electric one I expect.

It's a sensitive area for birders. Between us, we do a helluva lot of travelling, especially if twitching rarities.  Birding mags are full of ads for exotic faraway destinations. Many reserves (including Frampton and Gib) can only realistically be reached by car. Perhaps we ought to have some sort of code to adhere to.
