Marsh Harriers

Digiscoping provides a good opportunity for recording bird behaviour as well as keeping tracks on individual birds where several different individuals may be passing through an area in spring or autumn. The Marsh Harrier photos attached were all taken at Barton pits on March 30th 2002 and show the resident male in display with two different females. All shots were taken with a Nikon Coolpix 880 and a new Swarovski AT65HG plus 20-60 zoom. The lens of the 880 fits perfectly into the eyecup of the zoom eyepiece negating the need for an attachment. Note however that the 30ww eyepiece has a narrower eyecup but a wider optical lens making it more difficult to use with the 880 at least.
Note that Marsh Harrier is a Schedule 1 species subject to the terms of the W&C Act - the glory of digiscoping is that you do not need to be close enough to disturb the birds to get reasonable shots.
