RARE & SCARCE BIRDS - 2007

My 2007 film of ‘Rare & Scarce Birds' is now available in either video or DVD form. Once again, 2007 has been an exceptional year for unusual birds with the Pacific Diver in Yorkshire taking pride of place, closely followed by the American Robin , Spotted Sandpiper , Brown Flycatcher and Red-flanked Bluetail in the same county. Elsewhere, the White-tailed Plover in Caerlaverock/Lancashire generated enormous interest, as did the White-billed Diver in Cornwall, Iberian Chiffchaff and Little Bittern in Norfolk, Black Stork on Anglesey, Wilson's Phalaropes at Grafham Water/Bishop Middleham, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper in Kent and the autumn ‘Moltoni's' Subalpine Warbler in Norfolk.

All of the above mentioned birds are included in the 2007 production.

In Lincolnshire I was delighted to film the Greater Yellowlegs at Gibraltar Point – the first record for the county. Another first for many was the Stone Curlew at Greetwell. A Spotted Sandpiper at Messingham was well appreciated by those that managed to connect during its one day stay, as was the Black Kite at Nocton Heath - very much a long-stayer. The Peregrines that bred on Lincoln Cathedral had lots of admirers as did the Montagu's Harriers at Digby Fen. A Richard's Pipit at Saltfleet proved popular and there was a delightfully obliging Red-necked Phalarope at Gibraltar Point. Dotterel at Tetney, Black-throated Diver and the near summer-plumaged Great Northern Diver at Covenham also feature.

I have been able to film around 23 Lincolnshire sightings plus a further 16 from neighbouring Yorkshire.

Additionally, there is footage of several of the birds that were seen on the Scilly Isles during the autumn – American Buff-bellied Pipit, Blyth's Pipit, Blackpoll Warbler, Red-throated Pipit and a very obliging juvenile Woodchat Shrike .

In total about 70 sightings are featured in the 197 minutes of running time.
