The only globally endangered vulture in Europe where it is found from S Europe east through S Ukraine, Turkey and Caucasus to C Asia and NW India, and south through N Africa, Middle East, Sahel and Arabia to N Tanzania; situation unclear in S Africa, where formerly widespread, now persists as breeder in SW Angola and N Namibia and maybe Eastern Cape, South Africa. Also still present Balearic Is, Sicily, Cape Verde Is and Socotra.
