Cuckoo

This male Cuckoo was photographed at East Butterwick on April 25th 2002 - the species seems to be getting rarer in the north of the county but has there been a general decline and are they really as scarce as we imagine? Certainly I do not hear the volume of song that I recall ten years ago but over the last three seasons there have still been two or three males around Barton pits and at least two females---fledged juveniles though remain a real rarity and they are noisy so difficult to overlook---I found two in 2000 but only one last year----in the past when Lincs reports were regular there were very few juveniles reported throughout the county but how much is this an artefact of the way people bird in summer and early autumn?
