Cormorant (first-summer 'Continental' Cormorant P.c. sinensis) - June 2002

The following images are of the unusual Cormorant that has been at Kirkby on Bain gravel pits, on and off, for the past few weeks. There were suggestions that the bird could be a first summer Double-crested Cormorant, but opion now seems to be a first-summer 'Continental' Cormorant P.c. sinensis. Apparently, very few sinensis Cormorants of this age have this plumage colouration in first summer.

The pictures were obtained on June 12th 2002.
