A garganey was the highlight at Frampton Marsh today.
Little water
At least 32 little egrets
An avocet with an orange ring on each leg. The only one that I saw
Lots of sand martin and meadow pipits
Good numbers of goldfinch about
About 4 ruff

Hi Chris,

I was in the Visitor Centre pretty much all day, so I presume I met you without realising it. There were two garganey in the late afternoon and a visitor reported three from the previous day. There are two again today plus an arctic skua sat on the mud in front of the VC.

Your avocet sighting is very interesting. I recorded a (presumably different) colour-ringed bird at Frampton recently, it came from Dunkirk, Cambridgeshire. According to this website http://www.cr-birding.be/ there are 22 avocet colour-ringing schemes in Europe. If you have all the details perhaps you might like to see if you can find out where your one came from.

Cheers,

John
