Rare Breeding Birds and the LBC Forum and in the LBC Photo Album

Rare breeding birds are at risk from egg-collectors and disturbance. While some birds of prey are also at risk from persecution. Publishing records of Rare Breeding Birds on the LBC Forum may potentially put them at risk, therefore if in doubt PLEASE do not post!.

If you discover a rare breeding species that you think is vulnerable, contact Natural England or the RSPB, which have considerable experience in protecting rare breeding birds, and report it to the County Bird Recorder or the Rare Breeding Birds Panel. Please DO NOT publish records of Rare Breeding Birds on the Forum, as they will be removed by the administration team. The LBC has a responsibility to remove all records of Rare Breeding Birds from the Forum, and asked that member do not post them.

Please also consider not publishing a record of any potential rare breeding birds during the breeding season even if you are not sure whether they are nesting or not.

The LBC forum has a confidential record submitting system, which sends the record direct to the County Bird Recorder - if you feel happy using this system, the button is on the TOP right-hand corner of EVERY page on the Forum or follow this link.

Grey Areas..

Sometimes it is difficult to be 100% sure what is an acceptable record to publish and what isn't. If in ANY doubt please DO NOT post.

Three Examples of three very different birds which will hopefully help you make the right decision..

Marsh Harrier. Marsh Harriers are a very familiar bird to birdwatcher in Lincolnshire - nationally they are still a Rare Breeding Bird. If you record a Marsh Harrier between April - August on a wardened nature reserve and it is well known that the birds breed on the site, and you are observing it from a hide then it is acceptable to publish this record. However, if you see a Marsh Harrier on private farmland in good breeding habitat, away from a known nature reserve between April - August THEN do not publish this record - send the details direct to the County Recorder.

Raven. Please do not publish any records of Ravens between Feb - June, after these dates please feel free to post records of any wandering birds....

Avocets. Please post ONLY records of bird on known wardenend nature reserves - please do not publish records from elsewhere .

For full details please read the Birdwatchers Code - http://www.rspb.org.uk/advice/watchingbirds/code/index.asp.

Thanks
