Birdbaths
Birds need water in all seasons. They need it to bathe and keep their feathers in tip-top condition for good insulation during the bitter winter nights. They need it to drink, too.
Seed-eating birds in particular need water, as their main food source is very dry. Insect-eaters need more water in the winter because they do not eat as many juicy caterpillars.

Legbourne Wood (near Louth)
The Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust is appealing to the public to help save the ancient, wildlife rich woodland of Legbourne Wood. In a predominantly agricultural county, ancient woodlands are rare and this is an unexpected opportunity to save one of the last remaining. The Trust needs to raise £70,000 to save and restore the woodland.
By responding to this appeal, people will be helping ensure both interest and pleasure for future generations. To make a donation please contact the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust on 01507 526667 or fill in the donation form at

RSPB Freiston Shore Open Day
The annual RSPB Freiston Shore open day will be held from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday 13 June 2004. Entrance to the reserve is free. Toilets and refreshments are available. The reserve is signposted from the A52 Boston to Skegness road.
There will be plenty of activities, some held in a large marquee all of which are suitable for children. These include face painting, owl pellet dissecting, looking at the creatures living in the mudflats and games. You can also make a nest box/bird table or join us on a guided walk. A good range of optical equipment will be available to test and purchase.
There should be plenty of birds too, so hope to see you there.
If you have any queries or would like to make sure we have any specific items of birding gear/optics please contact me direct.
